NELA Statement on Massachusetts State Senate Legislation
Posted Thursday, June 30, 2016

We are clearly disappointed with the outcome of today's Senate session and the passage of their Ride for Hire legislation.

This bill is lacking in public safety provisions. No FBI background checks.  No license plates denoting the purpose of the vehicle.  No insurance commensurate with level of coverage needed for the trips driven everyday. The public is left vulnerable and unprotected still. This is categorically unacceptable.

We want to thank the efforts of Senators like Linda Dorcena Forry, Barbara L'Italian, Sal DiDomenico, and Tom McGee and others like them who fought for the issues that the Chiefs of Police and the District Attorneys Association highlighted as absolute necessities for this legislation.

We are not done fighting. We will work to ensure that all the provisions we care about are retained in the conference committee.
